Think outside the Church

Outdoor weddings and ceremonies in interesting locations have become a popular way to make your wedding stand out.  Try having your ceremony and reception at a museum or park.  These types of spaces have their own ambiance and decorating is minimal.  Have a tent installed to shade your guests from the sun or protect them from rain.

Go Green and DIY

Choosing locally grown flowers, recycled invitations, and repurposing old items into centerpieces has become a popular style.   Writing their own place cards or creating their own centerpieces is not only saving bride’s money but the environment as well.  Not crafty?  Have your guests make donations to environmental charities as your wedding favor!

Going Vintage

With celebrities embracing old Hollywood style comes brides embracing everything vintage.  Everything except the puffy sleeved wedding gown is coming back!  Thrift and antique stores have become the new shop of choice for 2012 brides.  Table settings and decorations are all taking on an aged feel.  Display old wedding photos from both your families on the tables to get that vintage feel.  Even bouquets are going vintage!  Use feminine, soft colors such as cream, ivory, light pink, or lavender in big blooms like hydrangeas or peonies.  Adorn your bouquet with pearls, lace, or vintage sparkly brooches on the stems.

Not the Vintage Kind of Bride?

Pantone, the world authority on color, named Tangerine Tango the 2012 color of the year.  So if you’re not into the soft vintage look then Taste the Rainbow!  From high fashion runways to Kate Spade & J Crew, bright rainbow colors are seen everywhere and are affecting the wedding industry in every aspect, from flowers to bridesmaid dresses.  Make a bold statement!

Bring on the Buffet

Not only is it more cost effective but choosing a buffet service gives your guests an array of options to choose from and there will be something delectable for every palette.  Finger foods are becoming more and more popular like mini grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup shooters or French fries with ketchup in a shot glass!  And remember it’s not only about great tasting food but the presentation makes a huge difference.

Goodbye Cupcakes!

We have all seen the cupcake tier at most weddings lately – well not anymore!  Instead look for a dessert bar.  Not to be confused with the candy bar we all know and love, your dessert bar can have many of your favorite desserts from pies to cookies to brownies!  Show your true DIY side and ask your family and friends to make one of their favorite desserts to display on your buffet.  They can be labeled with fun place cards such as “Grandma’s Cookies”

The lasting trend for weddings is always to make it your own.  Having the wedding theme you love is what is most important.  Do what you and your husband to be feel most comfortable with and make your special day your very own!  Who knows – you may inspire next year’s trends!
